Editor guidelines

Introduction
Hey. C'mon. This doesn't have to be complicated. I'm a believer in rules, as long as they're rational, applied evenly, people know what they are, and everyone consents to follow them. And let's be honest. This site has pretty modest goals that don't need to be complicated by unnecessarily Draconian or Machiavellian restrictions.

The way I see it, as long as we all play nice, this thing should go swimmingly.

That said, here's some basic guidelines for what I'm looking for.

Who can be an editor?
Anyone. As long as you (1) have some relationship to Buddhism personally, professionally, tangentially, whatever-ally; (2) have reasonably good language skills (or at the very least, you spell check things before hitting "submit"); (3) have the desire to help spread information about Buddhism free from prejudice and well off your high-horse; and (4) are the kind of person who plays well with others, you're in.

What kind of sites should be listed?
Buddhist sites. (Duh.) But let me be clear.

  1. Any site whose primary topic is Buddhism is fair game. Buddhaworld does not discriminate Buddhisms based on some arbitrary judgement of what "counts" as "real Buddhism."
  2. I'm really not interested in sites that are thinly veiled Christian critiques of Buddhism. As far as I'm concerned, they've already got plenty of venues to express their opinions.

Can I list my own site?
Of course. But don't list JUST your site.

Share and share alike.
Know that by contributing to this site, you're participating in a fairly open-source project. That means that you don't really "own" anything you contribute but are sharing it with the world at large. If you're not cool with that, this might not be the place for you.

What about the ad revenue?
So far, my Google AdSense account has garnered me $3.47 over the past year and half, which works out to be about .20 cents a month. (Whoa big spender.) Google won't cut me a check till I've made $100. The annual cost to run this site is approximately $110. At this rate, it will take me 45 years to make enough money to pay for one year's worth of hosting.

Let's talk about revenue sharing in 2053, shall we?

(If, on the other hand, you're politically opposed to ads regardless of whether they make money or not, feel free to drop me a line. I really would love to talk about it and be persuaded as to why this site should be ads free.)
